FRUIT INTAKE BENEFITS BONES.

Fruit Intake Benefits Bones

Researchers from the MRC Human Nutrition Research Center in England examined the association between bone mineral status and fruit intake in adolescent boys and girls (aged 16-18), young women (aged 23-37), and older men and women (aged 60-83). Bone mineral measurements were collected in all subjects, as well as information on diet, health and lifestyle obtained through a questionnaire and seven-day food diary. Significant positive associations were seen between bone mineral content and fruit intake among all adolescents and in older women. In boys, vitamin C intake was also linked to greater bone mineral content. (Natural Products Insider, 06/13/06)
