Vitamin K Curbs Bone Loss, Fractures
British scientists conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis discovered supplementation with vitamin K (phytonadione and menaquinone) can reduce bone loss and decrease incidence of fractures. Their findings were published in the June 26 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. Of the 13 studies selected for bone loss data, all but one study reported a bone loss reduction in the people treated with both vitamin K forms. And seven studies reporting fracture data showed results favoring menaquinone for vertebral fractures and for nonvertebral fractures. (Natural Products Insider, 06/27/06)
