Fiber Lowers Inflammation
According to researchers from the University of Massachusetts, consumption of dietary fiber may protect against disease-causing inflammation. Data was collected from 524 subjects at baseline and quarterly (every 13 weeks) thereafter for a total of five visits. The average total dietary fiber (soluble and insoluble) intake in this study was 16.11 g/day and was measured against serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. The researchers concluded the results suggest dietary fiber is protective against high CRP, which supports current recommendations for a diet high in fiber. (Natural Products Insider, April 13, 2006)
