Calorie Restriction May Slow Aging Process

According to the authors of a study recently published in the JAMA, calorie restriction may be associated with anti-aging effects. Their findings suggest that 2 biomarkers of longevity (fasting insulin level and body temperature) are decreased by prolonged calorie restriction in humans. Previous animal studies have shown that prolonged calorie restriction increases life span in rodents. The current trial included 48 overweight subjects to determine if 6 months of caloric restriction with and without structured exercise was associated with metabolic and endocrine changes associated with aging as measured by laboratory tests.
